Tin Brook - Stockport

I'd been wanting to have a look at this section of the brook for as long as I can remember, having passed on a previous invite from Freshfingers,
this time I was bang in the mood for a crawl about in a freezing cold poo ridden stream...Who wouldn't be ?

Tin Brook is a culverted stream which runs underneath stockport, passing under Robinsons brewery and Stockport precinct before finally discharging itself into the river Mersey.

"The name Tin Brook given from the circumstance of the workshops and places of business of tinmen being on the stream or near it wherein they threw there refuse"

Visited with Ojay, Freshfingers, Paulpowers, Nickindroy and Tom Sherman

Finally, It was good to back underground after a self imposed ban on all things drain related

Brick, brick and even more brick, with a cheeky whiff of 'fresh' thrown in for good measure

Evidence of the old mill above, although a quick evacuation would be tricky with such a backbreaking stoop

Old meets new, although this modern section is no-less photogenic than the brick porn on display

As far downstream as we could manage on this excursion, although we inserted an Ojay into the smaller pipe
in an attempt to budge a lid...unfortunately to no avail

The small pipe leads to the outfall setup, I went down to see how much more debris was blocking the drop shaft

The lid was in the grp bit, the one I lifted out into that scrub we went and looked at later ;)

Cool. It wouldn't be a northern drain report without the obligatory words fresh, stoop, brick porn and ojay. All boxes ticked well done.

Not a pleasant crawl that but someone had to do it, FF had neck waders on etc, I was virtually in my underpants by comparison and soaked to skin, I'm not sure why I bother with this silly hobby :D

Only just come across this while browsing, and that alarm sign is intriguing. Wonder if it is in case of a discharge into the system, perhaps from the brewery above, as it seems quite steamy down there?

That used to be the infall
There was building work going on overhead which was right over the culvert and was causing collapses in places, Ojay will tell you how close it was to coming down while we were inside on our visit back in 2011
