The history

Not loads of history to be found here I’m afraid.
Originally built in the 1920s as part of an ambitious plan to create a new development called Ainsdale on Sea following the rail expansion up the coast from Liverpool. It was hoped that the apartments would form part of a larger development that ultimately never materialised.
The apartments operated until the 60s or 70s when the building proceeded to house the infamous Toad Hall Nightclub which in that era was the place to be if you wanted to catch a glimpse of a Liverpool or Everton footballer. The owner closed the club in approx 1990 due to his dislike of the growing rise of drugs within nightclubs. It then proceeded to house one of the first internet businesses, UKHairdresspers.com and also a printing firm before closing for good in the early 2000s.
There was a large fire in 2014 that caused a lot of damage to the roof and in 2021 the council proceeded to spend 10K of the locals money on a large mural of two sand lizards to vastly differing opinions understandably!

The explore

Having previously accessed some parts of the building an opportunity arose to explore the final parts of a local landmark before it was boarded for the mural.
Cost me a parking fine on what was a miserable wet day, so hope it’s appreciated

I don't think that record will play anymore unfortunately :\. Really strange imagining such a huge mural of sand lizards in Liverpool, of all places though.

would make pretty nice apartments if renovated in the right way…….but the council (owners) would rather just let it rot

Nice report. Agree that lizard is questionable. Some nice og bits in there. What's the point of boarding it and painting it!. Its covering history and not really addressing a problem. Sorry re the fine but yes the report is appreciated :thumb

it’s considered an eyesore by some, hence the mural….really seems 50/50 whether it’s appreciated though! Politicians eh!!!!
