History lazily stolen from Weeble. The Cobbold family set up the Cliffe brewery on this site in 1746. The current building dates from 1894 when the brewery was rebuilt.
In 1957 Cobbold merged with Tollmache breweries to become Tolly Cobbold.
The Cliffe Brewery closed in 1989 but was then saved by a management buyout. However, production was moved to the back buildings, and from 1992 tours of this main building commenced.
In 2002, Ridley’s acquired the company and the Cliffe brewery closed.
