Tonemill Dye Works Somerset 02-2011

Tonemill Dye Works Somerset, what started off as a solo explore soon turned into a bit of a social gathering with Urbanity and VW Dirtboy joining in the fun.Firstly a big thank you to Urbanity for the help with this one it's an absolute stunner..the day started with a visit to the Tonedale mill engine house which is again an amazing site then on to the dye works it really is hard to judge just how amazing this place is from the shots what you miss are the smells and textures of all the wood and rusty iron work, with all the cloth still in the rollers you cant believe it's been shut for so long.you can easily spend a whole day if not more in here shooting i would love another visit but it's a hell of a way.
The mill is an unusually well preserved cloth and finishing works, the site was established in the early to mid 18th century and operated by fox brothers and Co of the nearby Tonedale Mill, the buildings range in date from 1830's maybe evan earlier going to the 1920's. the buildings and their contents have been listed as grade II and gradeII*. the mill was finally closed in the late 1990's.
