Been wantint to see this for a long time. Towers history and recent closure has been well covered by other reports so I wont go in to it. It was a fairly small colliery, but with all the usual features. Nothing has changed so far, and there is still a small gang sorting things before the shaft is capped.
We were very kindly shown the winding house, fan house, lamp room, medical centre, Bath house (complete with naked miners
) and the collieries methane fired power plant. Quite sad it's long history is coming to an end, but for the right reasons for a change... theyve got through all the coal!! Also good to know the stocks and winding house will be preserved.
The fellas at tower (as I have found with most collier folk) were the nicest blokes you could ever wish to meet. One was very kind to me and Turk and allowed us a very unique oppertunity, and if he reads this thank you very much
