I do have a thing for roofs… in fact, once inside most venues I tend to head straight for the roof, and work my way downwards.
I love the views… and the fact that I can stand there and watch the world go by underneath.
What I like about this roof, was the fact that I seemed to be forever going up and down different ladders and metal staircases, walking across the tops of walls, just to get to a different part and a different height, to get a different perspective of the view below.
I easily spent a couple of hours in here, wandering around such a huge complex. Even though its stripped, its still very much possible to see “how it used to function†in its day. Interesting also, was to see the old partitioned offices with their ribbed glass doors.
Typhoo Tea factory was in use from 1896 till 1978.[6] The now-disused factory has its own canal basin connected to the Digbeth Branch Canal. The building, also known as the S Rose & Co Building, is a four-storey building, blue brick at the front and red brick to the rear.
Plans were to renovate the building, keeping the blue brick façade at its frontage, into apartments and student accommodation… however this was back in 2010 from what I can gather, and still the site still remains derelict. (no surprise there then.. as its been empty since the clothing manufacturers left over a decade ago) The surrounding area at Digbeth that I saw, as I took a lengthy walkabout, has such potential… it’s a shame that buildings like this have been left… industry fast disappearing.. hence its nice to take photographs to document places like this before they disappear altogether.
