Was out on our government sanctioned walk yesterday when I stumbled on the hatch for what I initially thought might be a ROC post. Spotted two little cast iron vents, did a little research, and it seems that it is in fact a subterranean reservoir which was sold off by SWW in 2009. The hatch looked very tidy with no visible locks - didn't try to open as there were other people around. I guess it's possible the ladder has been removed as a deterrent, but who knows. Possibly a nice little explore for someone a bit more gutsy than me? Located just past the top of Mount Pleasant, with a cracking view over the Taw Valley

A bit more research turns up all of these were for sale as well, most of them reservoirs.

You did nothing wrong at all by talking your daily walk, but please do not encourage anyone to go and explore at this time. The amount of goons and inexperienced morons who lurk and read posts on here just to get nuggets of information, cannot be underestimated. If some goon goes and falls down a hatch or slips and breaks an ankle/leg while climbing down or mucking around down there, it is the last thing the services need at the moment.

Certainly didn't mean to encourage anyone to go there right now. Maybe I was naive trusting people to have common sense. I just wanted to post whilst I remembered - stay safe everyone!

From what I have heard/read, the smell is not too bad, it's more the annoyance of workers from the local water board coming and going in their vans at all hours.
