EDIT: For the fellow history nerds, I stumbled upon a rare photo of the building in use in the 1960s:
There's also a lovely aerial photo that shows the warehouse in its heydey (with a big 'J Irving & Co' sign on the front):
Nothing riveting but it adds a bit of context. And curiously it looks the fire escape only used to go up 3 floors or so, so the rest of the doors must have been added in the 60/70s.

Nice - always interesting to see old photos of the docks - the aerial one also shows most of the pumping station (bottom left) for the Canada graving dock.

Now in the process of being demolished - a grotty dump but I quite liked it.

Eventhough this has bumped by you @urbanchemist as it’s being demolished, still nice to see the finer details. Loving shot 6 of the chair and kegs, nicely lit and very atmospheric!

It is a great site, sadly I didn't go up to the top floor. Maybe I should return!

Adding a few more pictures of the demolition for the record since I drive pass this site quite often.

First a closer look at the jigger once the roof had gone - it was made by The Hydraulic Engineering Co Ltd of Chester who supplied many machines on the docks (gate engines, sluices etc.).

The next time I looked, at night, it had disappeared - probably carted off to be recycled along with the rest of the metal framework.

The building is/was owned by Nortons scrap who generate the small mountains of shredded metal on Canada Dock over the road.

Immediately opposite on the last visit was a bulk carrier loading scrap, with a rare sighting of Boaty McBoatface (aka the Sir David Attenborough) parked alongside.

Yes, there used to be two car outfits in the 'engine works' warehouse - did a report on it a while ago.

I don't know if there are plans to demolish it - structurally it seems OK - but the food products place next one along is pretty far gone so will certainly go.
