In the midst of night, the roads were still; every home had closed curtains without light. Suddenly, this imposing hospital building stood looming over Kasumigaura Bay. Its hostile exterior was enough to create a brooding atmosphere.

We found our way inside the unloved and neglected building, making our way quickly to the rooftop that cast a beautiful view of the townships surrounding the water.

A long stretch of highway echoed the odd passer-by, but apart from this we were met with absolute silence. There we were, gazing at the one of the last stops of our adventure. It was so peaceful and calm up there, atop a building that possessed an otherwise gloomy, morbid vibe within.

We slowly made our way through each level of the building. Each room was disgusting and foul smelling. My associate is the least superstitious person I’ve met, yet to my surprise, this location had him feeling uneasy. There was an unpleasant character to this place; something bad had happened here.

Like most medical Haikyo, all medications, personal files, uniforms and equipment had been abandoned. Photographs of staff dinner parties had been scattered across the floor, left for the next explorer to find. The fact that these types of belongings have been completely left behind will forever boggle my mind.

Some top shelf stuff. Your lighting work is brilliant too. Don't see too many reports come out of Japan, so this is refreshing.

Thanks all for the kind words!

This was one of the last places we did in Japan. You seem surprised, but when I look at these photos I remember having a mediocore attitude towards it. By this stage we had seen some of the most incredible bat-shit insane places that were so overwhelming that our interests were simply exhausted, we were begging to return to Muggle life. I never thought I'd reach that point, but Japan did crazy things to me.

Outside of medical stuff, majority of locations we did were amusements such as bowling alleys, pachinko halls, love hotels, theme parks, arcades etc. Japan is very a consumerist, commercialised, single use place and the Japanese love being entertained whilst also maintaining tradition so if something bad happens somewhere they walk away from it, usually leaving everything inside, and never go back until its demolished. I'm told abandoned places are where the spirits go, not people, although something tells me the fully stocked abandonments are something to do with their idea of single use more than ancient Japanese tradition ... one trip to Seven Eleven and you're drowning in rubbish. They just wont let you refuse plastic!
