I thought i'd post my snaps from my trip to Crete this week as it seems somewhat unrepresented on here.
I travelled to Crete expecting a rather mundane sterile trip but was actually quite surprised and managed to find a lot of nice stuff to photograph.
I am very glad that I brought my camera with me.
Crete appears to have really suffered, first wit the 2009 economic crisis and now the covid crisis appearing to have devestated this area.
Businesses have gone bust or appear to be mothballed. It is quite sad really.
There were a number of derelict sites scattered around and I was able to have 3 mini trips whilst away. Added to these trips the mangy cats, the shut down shops and some half decent bangers, I was pretty happy when I got a chance to go on a walk solo whilst the others helped out the local traders on thier shopping trip.

Apologies for the number of photos!

First up the old olive oil factory in Chania. This was quite a nice little spot with fig trees growing inside the skeletal remains. A little climb inside. A view of the sea. Quite iddylic.
Site closed down approximately 20years ago and moved to a more modern premises out of town.

The agricultural office and adjoining structure, Kissamos-
There was a good basement area with lots and lots of paperwork - Super dusty and photogenic.
Adjoining is a structure with numerous concrete chambers. One can only assume this again something to do with olive oil. Regret not picking up the cat skull but wasnt sure on import situation with dead animal parts.

Wine brewing plant, Kissamos
This one was a bit weird with all its old amusement park decorations dumped in and around it-

The main vats - it stank of vinegar in here. Nice climb up the ricketty staircases.
It appeared that one section was reconfigured to produce.... olive oil.

I've been considering a trip to Greece/Crete for some time, as the whole country seems chock full of abandoned things. There's also a gargantuan train graveyard in Greece too which is a seriously cool place by the looks of it.

Definitely worth a ganders. The Train Yard in Thessaloniki is awesome, and yes, the whole plae is full of abondoned buildings etc, but they are quite spread out, and nothing that noteworthy unless you are specifically interested in Greek (recent) history
