Report - Victoria & Waterloo tunnels, Liverpool, October 2018

The Victoria tunnel is 2475 metres long,
running from Edgehill to Byrom street.
There's 5 air shafts 4 vertical & 1 horizontal,
there's refuges on both sides of the tunnel criss crossing one another.
The tunnel opened in 1849, closed in 1972.
There's a 400 metre spur in situ for shunting, but seldom ever used.

There's a 100 metre cutting (retaining walls) between the 2 tunnels,
a stationary engine was used to haul the wagons via cable until 1885.

The Waterloo tunnel is 862 metres long,
running from Fontenoy street to Waterloo docks.
There's 1 air shaft,
there's refuges on both sides of the tunnel criss crossing one another.
The tunnel opened in 1849, closed in 1972.
There's tar leaking through the walls, at the mid way point.

the cars in Wapping tunnel,
that's at the opposite side of Edgehill station.

filled in for a car park,
the route originally went to Wapping docks.

there's a red brick arch bridge which merseyrail crosses,
the route went beneath this.

Nice m8ty m8ty. Nowt wrong with a early morning stroll down the tunnels. You got some decent pics also. Not a bad time we all had overall . Till the next time Mr @Dingle .
