Bit of History~
Built in 1893 it was designed by Alberto Palacio, one of Gustave Eiffel's disciples. It's the only site in Spain to have UNESCO status.
It is considered to be one of the most outstanding constructions of the European Industrial Revolution and one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 19th century.
The bridge, still in use, is 164m long, and its gondola can transport six cars and several dozen passengers in 1.5 minutes.
It operates every 8 minutes during the day and night all year round, with different fares for day and night services, and is integrated into Bilbao's Creditrans transport system. An estimated four million passengers and half a million vehicles use the bridge annually
~
Even though it is active 24h a day it was the easiest one to climb (so far) as it had no barriers to climb over, just 5 ladders.
Had to be patient and wait for the conductors to disappear to the opposite side (which they happened to do every once in a while) and passengers to be looking the other way. Once done it was a swift climb to the top and then chill - nice to do a transporter bridge in good weather.
