A quick explore after work last week. Went to the Walton Burn near Castle Cary Cumbernauld, to take photos of the waterfalls but also found this amazing tunnel under the railway and you can return by a funny shaped culvert a short distance downstream.
Couldnt find any history about this place.
The tunnel starts with a convential brick lined & stone faced on outside bridge, taking the Walton Burn under the railway
but then it enters a tunnel in the rock
I wondered whether it had been a mine tunnel which the railway comp used to culvert the burn. it seems a bit excessive ??
and exits here. It does look like an old mine adit from here. It is not far from the other mines in the area.
the nearby culvert
weird shape
