Big Mill was a silk mill on a very large scale, built in 1857 to a design by William Sugden. The mill was six storeys high, 21 bays long and five bays deep. Other silk mills in Leek were to follow this general design. The mill was originally built for Lovatt and Goulding, but later became Wardle and Davenport. The firm was formed in 1867 with the partnership between Henry Wardle and George Davenport over many years they ran many successful business's employing up to 2500 people. By the 1960's the company was suffering great losses and by 1970 they went into receivership.
Been wanting to go in here since I dove past years ago, but never seemed to get the chance until now. Theres some nice decaying spaces, but its all a bit empty and dissapointing sadly. Visited with MD.
