History
Weidenpescher Park, the former home of VFL Köln 99, has one of the oldest football stands left standing in Europe. Situated next door to Cologne's racecourse in the Nippe area of the city, the site has become a car park for many horseboxes since the club was dissolved in 2013. The grass pitch now been replaced with shale, but the rest of the site appears untouched. Finding pictures of the stadium from the 1930's shows that very little has been done in the past 80+ years to the stadium and it's original charm remains. Unfortunately it was only a modest stadium hence the pictures of the main stand and terrace and nothing else.
The Visit
I had just over a day in Cologne and a quick Google search made this the most local and accessible site to visit (3 miles north of the city centre). Not masses to see, but the main stand is a beautiful structure with an art deco style roof. Being a football stadium whore this floated my boat and I spent around an hour here without being bothered. Apologies for the quality of the photographs, as you can see I am no expert photographer!
