History

Westbury House is a grand country house located at the extreme west of the Parish of East Meon. The original house was lost to a fire and the current building was rebuilt in 1904. In 1924 the estate was broken up and the house was sold to Thomas Whitehead at auction, he converted it into a boys’ preparatory school. The school ran until 1977, when it closed, either due to lack of pupils or financial reasons.

In its later years the house was used as a care home specialising in the treatment of patients with brain injuries. The care home closed in June 2016 following concerns of abuse and a subsequent on the spot CQC Inspection. The owner had previously been prosecuted for medical grievances whilst a GP.

The Explore

This was a 2nd attempt at the house due to the first being cut short by the next door neighbours. once we found a way inside we had free roam of the building for several hours.

Ha, I remember vividly us bundling out of that front door in front of one of the neighbours who had spent ages camped outside waiting for us to emerge with the police in tow, three police cars and their occupants were there to welcome us!
