Whittingham Hospital - Goosnargh
Building work started in 1869, originally to accommodate 1000 patients, from designs by Mr. Henry Littler, architect of Manchester, and was finished in 1873. It grew to be the largest mental hospital in the country covering 147 acres. The hospital eventually closed in 1995.
As everywhere else is getting the snow treatment I felt it right to pay a visit to Whittingham with a friend. I last attempted a visit in the peak of summer and failed comically. This time we didn’t have any issues in spite of it being fairly tight now.
Fun times were had navigating the infamous corridors. Although trashed its still unique and absolutely vast. The amount of snow inside was interesting but not really surprising, Combined with the festive decorations and stunning rays the vibe was truly perfect and it looked beautiful.
