Williamsons Fire and rescue Equipment Oldham. My first report of 2015 and my second explore since september 2014. In fact september 2014 was the first month that i hadn't done an explore since joining in 2009, i guess having children will do that that to you. I can't complain but i do miss getting out their. Slowly things are getting back to some sort of normality as normal as it can be. So chomping at the bit to get out myself and camera shy were doing driving about looking for spots, we saw this from and from the outside it looks like not to be bothered with however on closer inspection the inside yet trashed had some nice surprises and some nice original features and for some reason horse's stables ? not sure why.

Williamsons has been trading at mumps in oldham at the same premises since the 1920's a family run business specialising in fire fighting equipment and later refurbished conveyor systems. The business closed in 2011, some say this was due to the tram system put in. not too sure if that was the case sadly i can't seem to find out to much about the business or building. The building itself was a joy to explore and has a bit of George Barnsleys feel about it with all the old wooden shelving, bit of a warren in their and some lovely old rooms. Another long lost family business goes under which is always sad to see. So with any luck i will be back posting now and always on the look out for something new no matter how epic. Enjoy

Back in the game. Not a bad spot at all for a local place, given the standard host makeover.

Not really, that place was always a bit unique and specialist

I was waiting for Bungle to go and do it but looks like he must have finally retired :p:

Good effort, had a look at this place today myself before being called away to a stranded wife!

It always had allsorts of esoteric fire equipment in the windows, most looked as if it dated back to the 50's. It was also the place to visit for unusual items. Shame it's gone, sort of the hard-wear shop equivalent to Open All Hours :)

Places like this are still relatively common in Birmingham. I mean we have vast swaths of the city like Digbeth or the Jewelry/Gun Quarters where you can find these places still in existence on most streets (and that's without even considering the black country.) Same could be said of Sheffield or Stoke. Yet there seems big citys where i totally expect similar areas that don't really seem to deliver the goods. Mancs, Liverpool and Newcastle come to mind. Are they genuinely devoid of places like this or are people just not looking?

A lot of smaller places have/get redeveloped or knocked down pretty quickly in and around Manchester, but yeah Host and myself have and still are actively looking whenever we can, in fact we have some other stuff we are checking out this week, family/kids/jobs/time etc means it's not easy to dedicate as much time as we would like and perhaps like you are able to, but that's life isn't it.
