Willington Cooling Towers - Derbyshire - September

Visited with Host, Oldskool, Kitty & Bugsuperstar.

Ok, so this is a bit of a mini report, I took a few pics and then fell asleep in the grass on this hot summers day. I also learnt that Bug has a fetish for buttons aswell. We visited this after Clipstone colliery, good times all round. More of a mini report to be honest, probably didn't get as many shots as I could have and really struggled to capture them with my 18-55 lens.

Willington power station was in fact two independent generating stations situated on the same site, construction began in 1954 with site A. Site A station comprised of four generating unit's each of 100 megawatts of capacity, to service these there were two 425ft chimneys along with two cooling towers.Site B as to comprise of only two units of 200 megawatts capacity with only one 425ft chimney and three cooling towers, each tower is 300ft high and 145ft in diameter and 218ft at the base. The station began to close in stages from 1993 and finally closed in 1999
