All that left of Woodmuir Colliery is a couple of buildings, the mine shafts have been filled in and it is hard to see where they once were.
The mine was sunk in 1896 and remained in production until 1963.The two shafts the buildings serviced were 90 m and 91 m deep and at its peak the mine employed 273.
The site is now surrounded by a farmland and there is a working farm near by.

The most prominent building is the washery with much of the internal structure still in place.

The buildings seem to have been used for storage by the farmer at times although they were empty at the time of my visit.

I'm surprised that so much remains. Most collieries that were closed around then have utterly disappeared.

Pics 8 to 10 are certainly not the remains of a winding engine. That's much more likely to have been a belt-driven system for workshops machinery.
