OK so I know there are several of these up already with significantly better quality photographs than mine but I'm throwing in my modest contribution anyhow... please be nice to me I'm newb!

Originally built in 1704 for the Molyneux family, much of Woolton Hall including the frontage was extensively remodelled later in the 18th century by architect Robert Adams. The west wing of the house was demolished in the early 18th century when the building passed to the hands of Andrew McGuffie and became a 'hydropathic hotel'. No? Me neither. By the time of World War 2 the building was being used as a convent and private prepatory school. In 1970 it amalgamated with Notre Dame Mount Pleasant school and relocated to a purpose built site on the same grounds. The Hall was declared unsafe and stood derelict for years. The local authorities in their wisdom had demolition in mind for this beauty until it was bought by a local resident in 1980. It was most recently used as a wedding venue and a meeting place for the local chapter of Freemasons.

We were shown around by the former owner who acts as a caretaker. He came out on a crappy freezing cold day just to open it up for us. Clearly still so attached to the building and full of history and anecdotes. He was telling us about some of the damage some previous unwelcome visitors (read: douchebags) had done. Afterwards, he was happy to allow us to roam around and take pictures to our hearts' content while he waited outside. Respect to this guy!

There are plenty of quality photograhs of the grand ornate rooms and ceilings and especially that gorgeous staicase, already posted on this site that I wouldn't attempt to emulate with my limited equipment. I've concentrated more on interesting vignettes but please feel free to see my Flickr for more

Thanking you ;)

Thanks for this.:thumb
It's nice to see an up to date report as my friend and I are planning a wee trip down [SOMETIME]. I'll definitely be contacting the caretaker for a wee visit.

Thats how good they are at finding stuff.

Owner just moves something round the corner = Speed must have been and stolen it, flogged it on ebay and spent the money on hookers and crowbars.

They've even got a robbing room just for you.

Hookers and crowbars being the only sensible option to spend your ill gotten gains on.

He's put notes with his phone number all over the place, there was one on the front door & one at the front gate last time i was there :)
