At the start of WW2 Brighton Council built itself a secure underground document store beneath the South Downs at Devil's Dyke.
I've wanted to have a look in here for years so I'm very happy
A doorway leads to a dog-legged passage which goes down some steps into a square room. The roof is made from closely spaced heavy timbers resting on RSJs with a false ceiling of corrugated iron beneath to catch the drips. The thick wooden door to the room is lined in metal and has a barred window. There are air bricks in the walls for ventilation but where they lead to is anybody's guess.
Anybody know anything about the underground transmitter site on the east side of Lewes?
