In June of 2011 Jos,Lily and I visited this mine
Info:
This mine was erected in 1904 to supply the metal factories in the neighbourhood with cokes. The build of the first shaft began in 1907. A third shaft was built in 1921 but already stopped next year. For shaft 2 a new headframe was built in 1955. It had the highest frame (about 70 m high) in the region at that time. In 1958 5.234 people had a job at this mine. In 1967 a fourth shaft was dug. In 2005 the mine was closed. About that time, more than 1,400 employees had a job at this site. A part of the people got transferred to other mines or went with retirement. In 2007 larger part of the site was demolished. A fraction of the historic building fabric (Gatehouse, premises and carrier house) could be safed.
