I only found out about these last year. In the woods behind a scouts' hut, only 50 yards from the road, are 3 or 4 completely intact WW2 air raid shelters. They're kind of half built into the ground as the woods go downhill away from the scouts' hut. And what's even better, you can just walk inside them! One or two are used for storage by the scouts, but the others aren't. They're each about 20 ft long and maybe 7' high, and are arch-shaped. Each one has a ventilation shaft at one end. They get flooded when it rains, and there was about 6" of rain by the entrance of one when I was there last year, although the interiors don't flood by more than a few inches. I was told by a local that they were used by Polish people, who had escaped to UK and were living and working in the area at the time.
