On a sunny November Saturday I finally decided to make the trip over to York to have a look at the ROC HQ and was not dissapointed.

After visiting 50+ ROC posts it's interesting to see the type of place they'd have to report to.

I apologise if the pictures aren't up to scratch, I'm still learning how to use my s6500.

The bunker itself is at the rear of some new flats

The bunker itself is in a secure compound where you have to wait till the next tour (every 30mins) to be let in

On the right when you go up the stairs is this cooling system for the generator downstairs

On the left is the decontamination room

The tour begins by watching a film in the canteen, to the right are some interesting artifacts on a desk

You then start at the sewage pump room!

then move to the plant room

You can make out the generator at the back, wasn't allowed to go back due to health and safety

We then moved on to the ops room, this being where they would have plotted where bombs had fallen (I think)

Apparently the room is decorated to give an easy to work atmosphere, as the people could be stuck in here for weeks without natural light.

The only dissapointing thing about the tour was that we weren't allowed downstairs in the plotting area, again due to health and safety :(

After that we moved onto the dorms

Some interesting things on the bed

The last room we went to was the phone exchange

The tour guide was excellent and was interested in some of the other places I'd visited, I even showed her some pictures of Yeovil ROC HQ to compare.

Well worth the £5 admission, if you have any interest in the ROC I'd recommend it!
