The Molson Coors Technical Centre sits on the edge of the former ‘South Brewery’ site along Cross Street. Although interestingly, the main building wasn’t originally part of the ex-Bass site as its roots can be traced back to 1854 when Scotsman James Eadie established a brewery there. Eadie’s brewery was eventually acquired by Bass in 1933 becoming part of the ‘New Brewery’ site.
Position of the Tech Centre below when it was part of James Eadie’s brewery
The building furthest to the right is still just about recognisable today – albeit very modernised
This part of the brewery is currently owned by AG Construction, a different developer to the rest of the site. The developer has plans to turn the former Technical Centre into 70 apartments as there ‘is a demand in Burton town centre for young professionals seeking one-bedroom apartments.’
I always quite fancied a look in this bit as it contained the brewery laboratories and R&D areas, but it was fairly well secured back when I had a couple of looks around the main brewery. But as always, things change.
External (phone pic)
Reception / main entrance
Office areas
Loads of motivational messages to lol at here, not framed particularly well as I was distracted by a PIR spazzing out right near me
Cellars / workshops / stores / engineering
A long row of taps to fiddle with as you descend
Pretty dark and messy down here but plenty of stuff to rummage
Equipment left behind in the engineering stores
Laboratories & R&D
Most rooms contained fume cupboards and / or piled with junk
Microbiology Laboratory
That was about it, thanks for checkin'
