Scotland Yard

Never thought I'd end up here that's for sure. We saw it had closed and someone joked about exploring it and for some reason we decided to do exactly that. We managed to find plans to Mortuary Labs on the 8th floor and a few other things but by this point it was pretty late and security and begun making an appearance. Usual story haha. Hope more is found! and someone please get some good pics from the roof, such a mad view! so much to photograph, weather was horrible and wiping the lens took it's toll pretty quick.

History

The name derives from the location of the original Metropolitan Police headquarters at 4 Whitehall Place, which had a rear entrance on a street called Great Scotland Yard. The Scotland Yard entrance became the public entrance to the police station, and over time the street and the Metropolitan Police became synonymous. The New York Times wrote in 1964 that just as Wall Street gave its name to New York's financial district, Scotland Yard became the name for police activity in London.

The force moved away from Great Scotland Yard in 1890, and the name New Scotland Yard was adopted for the subsequent headquarters. The current New Scotland Yard is located on Broadway in Victoria and has been the Metropolitan Police's headquarters since 1967. In summer 2013, it was announced that the force would move back to the former site of Scotland Yard, the Curtis Green Building, which is located on the Victorian Embankment and the headquarters will be renamed Scotland Yard.

It was sold in 2014 for £370 million and is now being demolished.

Pictures

Didn't put much effort into these pictures, posting them to show it's there though! I'm sure there's loads to see

Being up the masts was incredible, felt absolutely mad. Worth taking a clamp up here, might try and go back

Did you manage to have a good look around inside or did you mainly go for the roof? Always thought there might be some more interesting bits in here like in pic 7. I guess it's fairly stripped now.

Decent view of the abbey, big ben and the eye anyway.

Nah, as i said in the report, ran out of time and from what we did see it was fairly stripped. There's definitely stuff here. Someone check floor 8 for mortuary labs please! :) or just go through the plans on the bottom floor near the entrance :)
