Made quite a few visits to Coltishall And the pool more than anywhere. This was from earlier in the year after showing @V50jake around the site for the day. The pool is rather nice but not on the scale of Ganges pool. Due to its location the pool like everything else here is not vandalised. A nice relaxed visit and nice to go back after nearly four years. The roof in the pool gives off a lovely light.
Raf Coltishall is a former RAF airbase. It was built in 1939 with the outbreak of war and was originally built as a bomber station. But plans were changed and it opened in 1940 as a fighter base. It hosted Hawker Hurricanes, then later became a night fighter station. They used Supermarime Spitfire IX HF’s which were used for bombing the V2 launch sites in northern France.
pit was used extensively during the Cold War. It was designated as a Vbomber dispersal site in the 50s. The Vulcan,Valiantand Victor could be flown there if the home station was damaged in an attack.
The last planes used at Coltishall was the Jaguars, these saw service in the Gulf War. The search and rescue coast helicopters were based there also. When the Jaguars were to be replaced by the newer Typhoon Eurofighter, Coltishall lost out on being a base for them. It finally closed in November 2006, and was the last of the Battle Of Britain fighter base to close.

Main foyer into the pool.

Lovely images. Nice abandoned pools are hard to find, especially that clean. I actually agree with LBE, carpet round the edge is rather unhygienic and odd to see

Why is the pool carpeted? Imagine getting out of the pool and having to walk to the changing rooms on carpet, bad enough walking on it when I get out of the shower at home..
I ain't going to lie, that never entered my mind at all. But now you say, it's a strange thing to have in a pool area. Imagine the dampness in it.

Yeah there ain't that many pools around. It's a strange thing to have around a pool. Surprised it's not mouldy unless it's a special carpet.

One I've wanted to  dive back into for a while now after a half arsed visit a few years back.
Well captured, as per usual.
