Sunday afternoon and wifey in tow ( note to self avoid the wifey in tow in future ) She has Trespass issues. Tipped off by a MkRatty friend of TCakes that the may be fun to be had
Fist of all located sunk the remains of Sunk Island Battery, Described as "A huge reinforced battery built in 1915 to defend the River Humber, now in ruins and almost completely hidden by trees. Once part of the 'Examination Station', its guns had orders to fire on any ship which moved up the river without a message from the Spurn Signal Station saying 'Navy want ship passed'."
In the inter-war years the guns were removed and the battery abandoned. Guns were reinstalled 1941 - 43 but then finally withdrawn and the site abandoned. Most the underground stuff is flooded, blocked off or chrushed.
