This is the abandoned part of Ushaw college, with pool. The rest of the site has all been restored and open to the public for tours, the abandoned part will be restored in the near future after securing a lottery grant.

Only just come across your site, so apologies for being late to the party.
I lived in Esh and was a pupil at St Michaels Catholic school in the 70s. As such I interacted with the seminary students from Ushaw College who sometimes acted as teaching assistants. On one occasion they took us to the college to try out the pool. I was not in there for long as it was unheated and therefore absolutely bloody freezing. I'm guessing that was intentional to cool the ardour of the soon to be priests.
I had a friend whose dad worked in the grounds and therefore lived there so would often cycle to Ushaw College from Green Court to see him. We moved to a village near Barnard Castle when I was 9 so lost touch with everyone there.
