I haven't been exploring for quite a some time and I have been wanting to visit this place for a while, so prompted by hearing it is earmarked for iminent demolition/ development I thought I had better pull my socks up and have a squiz. This is the first explore I have done for a while and the first I have done solo for ages, funny how I forgot the mix of emotions when doing an explore- intrepidation, bit of nerves etc...maybe I am getting old and sensible:crazy Anyway, here is my comeback report- hope you dont think its that crap...
Ysbyty Minfford was built between 1893 and 1895 in response to a need for an isolation hospital following an outbreak of typhoid due to a contaminated water supply in 1892.
It initially closed in 1984 when the nearby general hospital was built, but following a refurbishment and extension works, it reopened in 1988 as a psychiatric unit.
Time was finally called when the NHS put it up for sale in 2009.
Its current condition is poor with most cabling and plumbing etc removed for scrap. It is due to be developed very soon, so if you fancy a visit you had best make it soon. If anyone wants company I would probably go back as I dont mind the "trashed" look
Sorry the pics are a mixed bag of B+W etc, quite a few corridor shots (I like them for some reason) and a slightly boring bog shot, but I amjust getting my toe back in after a break.
