Few pics of Balfour Battery in Orkney. Lots of fantastic WW2 buildings in Orkney. Most in very good condition.

Operational 1940 - 1950
Battery was name in honour of Thomas Balfour the first Commanding Officer of the Orkney and Shetland Fencibles 1793.
The Battery was ready for action in March 1941. It was manned by 169 Coast Battery and remained in service until July 1945, being placed in care and maintenance until 1950 when the guns were removed
Balfour Battery overlooks Hoxa Sound. It's 2 x twin 6lb guns covering a large firing arc.

The Battery is in real good condition, unfortunately no way up into the directors towers as the wooden stairs had long gone.
