Posting my Bass maltings report reminded me I never got around to posting this little beaut.

This is the sister brewery of Langley Maltings. The pair were closed a few years ago. For such a recent closure the maltings is very original inside, although the malting tiles have been replaced with a wire mesh floor. The furnace below is still intact and original. That said there were still a few of Stanley's Patent tiles knocking around.

The ground floor was packed with malting equipment, barrows, rakes... sadly no shovels!!

what is that is the 6th pic down?

Its a Stanley's Patent Malting tile. The malt was spread over the floor, and hot air from the kiln (or the "tunnel" as people have been calling it on this thread ;) )would rise through the holes, causing the malt to germinate.

They are still in situ in the Bass maltings here:
