Following on from jimbobs suggestion to another user that he visit barrack printing in macclesfield and on the strength of having seen a picture of the fantastic boileroom with 3 old fantastic boilers still in situ myself and Lawrence decided to pay this place a visit.
Barracks Printing Company was established in 1924 and became a leading screen printing business, experimenting on different types of fabrics.
Barracks became part of Courtalds Group and specialised in the high quality end of the fashion market as well as producing furnishing fabrics. Barracks was primarily a commission printers and whilst having a large design studio to prepare customers designs for printing did not often originate its own designs.
Part of the site was destroyed in an arson attack a while back and is in a very precarious state but the rest (including the boileroom) is well worth a look, but be warned , the site owner had had problems over the last few months with theft and vandalism and is very very vigilant so i would suggest if you want to visit this site you contact me for his phonenumber and he'll happily let you look around.
