There are several tunnels under the river Thames at Battersea. I belive there are 4 in total, 2 electricity tunnels, 1 steam tunnel, and 1 gas tunnel. The ones I am focusing on are the two electricity tunnels. These go from Battersea Power station to the north side of the river.
One of the two tunnels is abandoned and the other is has been put back into use. Both tunnels start in different locations in the basement of the power station, then under the Thames they cross over and come out in different location on the north bank.
The active tunnel is pretty secure, but the abandoned one isn't.
The tunnel is 859 meters long
The Battersea power station basement entrance
Stairs down to the tunnel
The middle of the tunnel is flooded. They pump it out every few months. The tunnel slowly fills up with rain water that slowly enters from the north side. it is only possible to go through the tunnel just after it has been pumped.
There is an extra entrance about 200 meters from the power station. This has some very long ladders. I do not know where this comes out. It must be somewhere on the south bank
The tunnel is not very deep and you can hear boats going above
