Baynards railway tunnel is just south of Baynards station on the old Guildford to Horsham railway, which closed in 1965. The original plans were to have a deep cutting at this point, the summit of the line, rather than a tunnel. The southern portal still remains, but the northern one has been infilled and the Downs Link cycle path which follows the course of the line is diverted over the top. The tunnel was built in the 1860s and is around 360 yards in length.

Visited with Urban Junky, Pirate, Datsun. Props to JD and Stoop of sub-urban. I think they did this a good few years ago, at the time when the air shaft was open and they had to abseil in. Not much else to say or see really.
