On the 14th of February 1985, the "Blub swimming paradise" of Britz Harald Frisch (Managing Director of the bath) opened. The construction costs of the Blub were 44 million marks, of which the State of Berlin ready put nine million Mark as interest-free credit. Since its opening, the Blub, the "Berlin blubst delight" had about seven million visitors and was open every day from 10am until 11pm . Initially, there were 600,000 visitors per year, but by 2001 the number of visitors dropped to 330,000.
Frisch explained that there were significant problems of violence with youth gangs, who regarded the pool as their territory. Because of this, three security professionals were put in place, but couldn’t do anything against the gangs. This and the increasing structural decline stopped many families from attending the pool.
In December 2002, the Blub was closed by the health department due to acute rat infestation, bird droppings and epidemic hygiene conditions. Health Councillor Michael Freiberg was sent after complaints from visitors. The rat infestation came from the nearby Teltow canal.
In 2002, there were some areas that have been closed by the health department.
In 2003, Blub became insolvent
On the 25th of July 2004, the Berliner Morgenpost ranked BLUB 67th in the Top 100 Uncool places of the City (of Berlin)
On 1 February 2005 the Blub concluded.
The project developer Tobias Willmeroth bought Blub in 2009 and wanted to open a "holiday resort for families" by 2011. By the end of 2011, Willmerroth announced that they had found an operator for the planned resort and were expect a reopening no later than early 2014.
In 2012, the Höcherl Group of Munich bought the area with the aim to build 450 apartments there
On July 4, 2013 several emergency vehicles of the Berlin fire brigade were called to the Blub. . The Berlin fire brigade stated that the water supply is no longer guaranteed by hydrants on the premises
To date, there have been several other fires in Blub, including in April and in September 2015
