We don't just have abandoned buildings, we have abandoned people as well, they are often murdered. Here is a story of how we traced the story of one of the many thousands. A Doe is an American term for a deceased body for which there is no known identity. This Doe have been named Beth Doe....

883259

Found Dec 20th 1976 dismembered in 3 suitcases that were thrown over this bridge, White Haven, Pennsylvania.

883260

They missed the river so were quickly found by passers by. The victim was 9 month pregnant, and was strangled, shot (after death), had her nose, breasts and ears cut off.

883261

She had previous dental work that is always a sign she lived a normal life previously. Isotope testing showed she was likely from Serbia and had lived in the USA for 5-10 years.

883262

She is buried literally in the middle of nowhere, Laurytown Road Cemetery. Its actually surrounded by miles and miles of Christmas trees being grown for sale.

883263

She had WSR 47 written on her hand. No one had ever been worked out what it means.

883264

And here is the graveyard. The state buries the dead here who have no money or family. So really these are all abandoned people.

883265

Most of the graves are unmarked.

883266

We found another Doe grave. We have no idea who this was

883267

And Beth Does grave. Its actually the most well looked after with its few flowers. Often Does are adopted by towns or the emergency services involved with the case.

883268

After all the research we have done on this doe it really hits home how sad these things are when you stand at their graves. 43 years dead and its still unknown who she is, or who killed her. I hope this is solved...

Well look, I encouraged you to post this as I wasn’t sure what it was all about on the proviso if it didn’t fit the bill we may remove it..
As much as it’s an interesting story, it’s not strictly UE :popcorn

If you take the view its abandoned people, rather than buildings its next stage urbex (maybe :) ) And roof topping also comes under urbex, so the god or UE is flexible when he wants to be.

Yeah, but as I said in the chat box and all that

I don’t wish to be rude but “abandoned bodies” is some other niche I guess which isn’t strictly UE.

I dread to think what others not so polite might have to say.

Thanks for taking the time to post all the same :thumb

Shaun good question. We certainly don't have the big networks of organisation that seek to find who these people are. The USA take it a lot more seriously, you can even see maps that contain the 1000's of does. I've personally never seen a UK doe grave, in fact your question has highlighted to me how little I know about the UK system.

In the UK does are cremated and their ashes scattered on the local councils 'paupers grave' sites.

The phrase John doe (for males and Jane doe for females) has numerous tales of origin, popular ones being doe the easier term to say for DOA and often revolve around various emergency room stories of dead people touching the hearts of medical staff and them not being able to be processed and put to rest without a name.
As far as evidence goes, it can be traced back in our history (the uk) the furthest so its generally accepted as being a name used by uk landlords wanting to test the waters before going to court to evict squatters in their properties. A false name used to see if an action would be successful or not without using their only chance up on a real person. Often people living rough or a squatter wouldn't or couldn't give their real details so the name John doe was also used to broadly cover a small group of people. If it worked the squatter/s were given the nickname post action and they were removed from the property.
Im sure the Internet will come up with a more definitive explanation but thats it as far as I can remember it.

As suggested its certainly not urbex, it might be almost acceptable on a puzzle solving group but not an exploring forum in my opinion. To be honest this isn't even a particular interesting case in my eyes, there's plenty more out there like the neanderthals found frozen in the artic etc but its not as bad as it sounded on the chat or as bad as that crypt thread.

My vote is to lock or delete it, not urbex and that's as nice as I can be. Not my decision either way but I suspect although interesting for a few seconds and has brought a conundrum to our group i don't think it really have a place here.

I agree it’s not the normal stuff we have on here but its still a type of exploring. I say keep it.......it’s more interesting and well written than most of the derp reports on here.
The OP has clearly put in the research and leg work rather than following the tour bus.

I think the abandonment of people is an interesting concept

The only issue is if we get lots of silly threads on abandoned plastic toys or abandoned sausages etc.

@scooby interesting I didn't know the UK cremation route. That could explain why buried USA Does are not forgotten as easily. A grave is more memorable than ashes. And yes there are more interesting examples but this was one along our road trip, but we enjoyed the research. However, the less information the more mystery is one way to look at Doe cases. I think the most interesting case is the Isdal Woman, here is podcast that follows the story in detail, well worth a listen if you haven't already https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p060ms2h/episodes/downloads

@pirate I'm pleased you liked the report. I'm always looking for new things to do and Doe research is fascinating. Especially as so many of these cases are now being solved via familial DNA. 30 or 40 years of knowing nothing, than they get a DNA hit and the mystery is largely solved.

@AlexUrbex1 well if it does get deleted I’ve at least learnt a bit from you and Scooby.

yer most people in U.K. are cremated these days,no space for burials and cost is far higher.

my mates dad was a genealogist who specialised in tracing unknowns for the police, mainly deceased homeless people..informing families who may not have seen them for years.......was interesting stuff
