Billinge Hospital was originally founded in 1837 as a Wigan Poor Law Union hospital and workhouse, Different sections were added to the hospital over years with one of the biggest being the Maternity Hospital in 1968 serving the surrounding areas of Wigan, St.Helens and West Lancashire eventually shutting in 2004 and all of the units being transferred elsewhere and finally being demolished in 2007.

Behind the original building was the beacon day hospital which had to deal with older patients with mental illnesses and also some sort of smaller ward.

since its closure and demolition, mass amounts of surrounding land have been turned into a new housing estate, and the building itself has fallen into such a bad state, that the floor feels spongey in places and you can see sky through the roofing....

visited with oddball_uk on a very cold snowy and icey day
