Most of Belgium is shiny, new, efficient and clean. Some parts are not. Liege is one of those parts. It's a steel town with more than a hint of Port Talbot or Middlesborough about it. It's still working but the industrial fucked-ometer is swinging wildly. I guess Belgium is going through what the British steelmaking industry went through years ago. It's cheaper to make it in the far east without any H&S expenses and the blast furnaces are shutting down. To hell with "mothballing" one these stop they never re-start without major rebuilding work.
The whole site is so easy to spot by anyone with half a dereliction radar. Driving up to it and it feels like Southbank in Middlesborough too (they stole the CCTV off the police station there) and I'm not expecting to ever see my car again.
So we're in and arguing about which way to head, one minute we're walking among trees, the next we're stuck with what looks like an old open mineshaft in front of us. Looking for an alternative way we suddenly find ourselves going from ground level into the roof of a huge foundry, this alone would be epic, but it's not even the point of the trip.
Onwards! Finally ater a maze of railways and fences HF6 stands there and it's just huge. The realization dawns, there isn't a door into something like this, it's like a massive climbing frame, so keeping away from the lit offices we take anything that goes up!
It's basically like a big headstock and amongst the hissing and banging from the rest of the site we head up to the top. Epic views of steeltown, epic levels of filth and another industrial behemoth in the bag.
The rest of this place needs examination, there's got to be much much more to be seen. Like this:
But anyway here's HF6:
Always:
Check!
Topping Out!
But there was higher.... And upskirt shots for your viewing pleasure!
And Banana ticks off more epicz too
Another Dirty Weekend
