Another site Bryag and I hit today on our trip to the West...

First thing we saw was this:

We had a wee nosey - the site looked a bit dilapidated, the gates were wide open (and had been for some time, given the grass grown over them) and there was no sign of anyone about....
The place certainly appeared to be abandoned...
We decided to go in on foot, with no cameras etc, and play the tourist card if anyone appeared.
No-one did, we had a good mooch round, and decided to head back up to the car to get the cameras, leaving the rucksacks in the car just in case...

General view of the huts:

Looking down the slipway:

Rather groovy generator and windlass:

We figured this must have been for the actually Boom?

Big rails on the slipway:

Massive anchoring-type blocks on the beach:

Unfortunately this was where our fun came to an end :(
A chap turned up in a car and asked us "what are you on?" and if we hadn't seen the sign....
Couldn't really deny we had, it was rather obvious
Time for us to sling our hooks...
So no more pics for us - shame, there was some good shots to be had amongst the huts, and up the water-tower :(

Still, an interesting site, at least we got to see it all, shame we couldn't photograph it all.

I'm sure Bryag got some good pics :)

Piccys looking good, Zimbob:thumb Just think what you'll be able to do when you are used to your new camera!:D

Here is a little "disturbing" information I have uncovered:eek:

The NATO Loch Ewe site at Aultbea and the neighbouring Naval Boom Defence Depot at Mellon Charles, have military significance dating back to WW2. The location of the Boom Defence Depot marks the start of the original protective netting which guarded the entrance to the loch. Nowadays, the Mellon Charles site is rumoured to be involved in the disposal of waste nuclear material from submarines returning from their tour of duty. Source:www.secret-bases.co.uk

Are you glowing, Zimbob? switch off the light and have a check!

Here are a few of mine from the day, before we were so rudely interrupted!

Now that's just discrimination!
