A fascinating read. Courtesy of an agreement between the Western powers and Russia, these guy's were given free reign to wander East Germany at the height of the Cold war in heavily modified cars, taking every opportunity to steal, photograph and report on Warsaw pact movements, troops and equipment. Some amazing stories, especially the ones involving the run in's with the Russians!

I've read this, agree its a fascinating book. Another one of those things that went on until fairly recently that not many people knew about.

There is a Brixmix car in the new RAF Cosford Cold War Museum. Also a Brixmix museum in RAF Chicksands.

That book is an excellent read.

The Soviets had a mission in West Germany called SOXMIS doing the same thing!

Heres my 'Spotters Card' from the Cold War days:

Similar rules applied to BRIXMIS in East Germany.
