So after a lot of umming and arring about where to go, SouthSide and I decided to head deep into Mid Wales and see if this was still doable. It was very well documented over the last three or four years, things had been unfortunately pillaged and its looking worse for wear, but saying that it was worth an hour or so explore, lots of nice picture opportunities and a lot of clearly set up shots. We were a little disappointed at first but it proved to be quite photogenic on the lower floors.

This building had quite an unwelcoming feel which eventually went and we felt at home. Not something I've felt that often tbh.

The place goes under various guises, Red Dress Manor, Calcott Hall etc. The Red Dress has sadly gone missing from the house nestled in the Welsh Valleys.

The four bedroomed hall was built in 1725 and it is well documented that the original previous dweller died in the 1970s and the house has been empty since, however there is Bills from 1998 on the kitchen table, expiry dates from 2002 in the Halls Pantry, and the vehicles parked on the land were taxed up until 2007.

It would be nice to think it had been left as it was when she died in 1972, but the amount of decay here does not add up with such a long abandonment time. The building was placed on the Listed Buildings at Risk register in 2012.

Nice shots man!

Was here yesterday, as I was parking the car a black Jag pulled up with a very posh bloke and his companion, they told us they WOULD call the police if we tried to enter and that two guys were arrested last week for burglary (can anybody confirm?). We walked to the gate had a fag and a drink, while they were driving past every few mins. Called it a day and went home.

Didn't have any trouble last week. But we didn't go in with bad intentions. Probably just some locals who have had trouble off less desirable people. Not sure who went last week

My first thought was locals being protective. But the woman seems to know too much about the site to just be a local, she had some sort of vested interest in the site, I'm sure of it! The bloke said he was a retired police officer, but he was driving around in a brand spanking new black Jag with 999 AUB on the plate. He didn't seem the bobby on the beat type of guy, must have been well up the ladder. All in all, something was fishy.

My advice is A don't park outside the place or near it, park in the village and walk to it just to be sure and B go early to avoid seeing anyone else especially if your making the effort just to go here..better luck next time.

That was our cock up, it was about 2pm and we were too knackered to walk too far as we had been on the road for 2 days with not much sleep. Luckily it wasn't the only site on the trip :)

Yeah something seems a bit weird. Maybe they are buying it. But why 999 on the plate?

I guessed the 999 was because he had served years in the police, got very far up the ranks and was rather proud.
