I always like it when people, like yourself, who were familiar with these places pop onto this site to look at things; more often than not I get a whole new history lesson lol. Real shame Castmaster closed - yet another piece of Britain''s industrial past which has gone.

The place I used to work closed in 2007, the year after I left. I've posted a few bits and bobs on here about it, Desford Tubes. amazed that nobody on here got round it before it all went. The next place I moved to is all gone now as well, all very sad. Tubes in particular was unique in the uk and now it has gone there is a hole in our engineering capability

UK industry is a sad situation right now, there's less and less every year; especially some of the areas we used to specialise in.

As a Paternmaker in the steel industry we used to buy our rolling mill rolls from Davy and Crew Roll masters, huge chunks of very strong steel, anbout 8 foot long and 28 inches in diameter, with various grooves and profiles cut into them for forming Billets of steel. So sad that ta place with so much history and trade skills has gone to the wall, but look at the pictures, would any lad or girl leaving school want to work in such a place, go to schollin a dress or suit and go to work in a suit, in a nice clean warm office.

Sadly due to lack of investment and huge buisness rates on large buildings means the demise of uk manufacturing plc, reading the posts its like watching a buissness directory of great british firms being asset stripped , deprived of investmnet or just closed due to imports.
