A lazy sunny early summer afternoon/early evening checking a couple of local sites with no success (one sealed, one had the sudden appearance of two workers from a next door business which put us off), and with time on our hands I remembered I had wanted to check this place out again after it cropped up again earlier this year thanks to @mingerocket . I first had a look at it probably around 14-15 years ago, back when it was extremely well sealed and wasn't anywhere near as decayed, and it became one of those local-ish places I simply completely forgot about for many years for an unknown reason.
Entry was very simple, and we had an enjoyable wander around the place. I've had a lot going on in my world this year and exploring has taken a back seat to everything, but I really needed something like this to lift my spirits and get my enthusiasm back a little bit, it's a wonder what it can do for the soul.
The facility was constructed in 1925 to serve the expanding town of Cheltenham, it had a fairly uneventful existence and was at some point taken over by Severn Trent who operated it until a new waterworks was constructed in Tewkesbury some time in approximately the 1990s. In 2020 the big filter beds were bulldozed and the levelled ground is currently being used as an overflow car park for the cider factory next door, who have almost completed a fancy new building, and at some point this building will hopefully be renovated into a new space for the company too.
Thanks for looking
