Part of the Bolton to Leigh Railway opened by William Hulton in the 1800's. The remains of the line run over the tunnel which was used to supply the nearby collieries. The tunnel is now owned by United Utilities and is used to carry part of the Thirlmere Aqueduct. Unfortunately it was locked at both ends so we were unable to get inside (booo!) but managed to sneak a few crafty shots through the gaps.

When I tried to access the tunnel from the North portal in 2021 it was totally overgrown and I couldn't get there, I couldn't even figure out that there is a door or portal.
