Visited recently with kid_in_a_toyshop and a couple of others who aren't on here.

I won't go through the history of the place as it's been done before and
I'm afraid my pics really can't convey just how epic this place is, how vast some of the chambers are and how bloody steep the steps and inclines underground are!

Icicles just inside the entrance

Junk and Land Rover parts.

Remains of an engine house.

Further down, looking down and a level going off to the right

A rubbish wagon upended and trapped, false floor leading to another level to the right

Ancient enamel sign warning of maximum load for a bridge across a chamber

This is the bridge. Not sure it would take any weight now

Hopefully this shot will convey just how huge the chambers are. The staircase ismade of slate slabs held on iron spikes driven into the rock face.

A tunnel between levels so men did not have to use the incline to reach their work

Bridge of mild peril

Another branch going to another level off the incline

Even further down the incline

And a completely impassable bridge

Rubbish wagons abandoned on the lowest accessible level. There is one more level but it's obviously flooded.

Lowest level chamber

Looking up from the foot of the incline. Most of it was at about 1 in 1 but this part was even steeper and it was a crawl on all fours to get back up!
