The place has been opening and closing for years. They've had a good go at sealing it since this report but the only way to find out is to go and look really!
I'll probably take a wander around in a couple weeks time then! Definitely looks worth while, if it is still accessible...

Hiding in the hills in the north of England lies an old railway tunnel that served as a colliery, Construction began in 1898 on the railway tunnel and it opened in January 1909.
During its use the tunnel was prone to collapsing and attempts were made to strengthen the tunnel using steel hoops but it finally closed in 1922 and in 1983 a private company
purchased the land and began to use the drift mine to mine coal.
This went on for a few years but in 1991 the colliery closed, the land was sold and the adits were sealed..(almost).
As we explored tunnel it was clear to see that coal was once mined here as the blackend brickwork seemed to swallow all the light aimed at it, a lot of the lower levels are flooded
which is common with these types of places as the pumps that would keep them dry are long gone.
Corrugated iron beams lining the wall and ceilings, old carts(in quite good condition) and old coal mining equipment including a 'national coal board' donkey jacket are all remnants
of an industrial age that is slowly being forgotten with time.

It is currently open... The top plate has been mostly broken off. But you'll need to be extremely skinny and hope there's something you can use on the other side to climb back out.

Here's a photo I took shoving my phone through the hole, couldn't manage a torch as well, other hand was clinging on for dear life 🤣

didnt take long then, has the plate gone altogether? if so that is the full extent of what the access was prev
ladder up one side & rope ladder down should still be doable.

BUT as mentioned in thread above anyone who goes in please take 4x, with the shaft now sealed there may be C02 build up which will kill you in a heartbeat.

Down and beyond

The true source of englands wealth is coal

Mine exploring is great fun issue is it changes from fun to very bad within a couple foot steps sadly . I have lots and lots of videos where me & @Bikin Glynn have encountered gas you can hear our breathing change instantly

Earlier this year someone died in a wide open iron mine due to not taking a gas monitor”co2 build up “ . Fellow mine explorers found him. He hadn’t told anyone he was going in either ….

It's still hanging on, but is completely out of the way. A ladder is a very good idea, lot easier than clambering across from the side of the cutting 😂
