the exploer whas great as this place was so cool exploring
for takeing a video and pics

This Former Lunatic Asylum and workhouse. The former workhouse which provided a variety of powers including the operation of a workhouse for the elderly, infirm and children.
later the workhouse became Wont say name of Hospital but which became a centre for the care of those with learning disabilities. The hospital has now closed and the site is being redeveloped.as I been to this location twice and 2nd time going it’s getting knocked down or have been knocked down by now so this may be the last video of this place or report if so the history will Live on My Most interesting find was the Mental panic room aka the Padded room / and patients beds divides curtains was so cool

You're wrong there was never padded cells here.

Okay - let's try and sort this out pre 1948 - it was a general Poor Law establishment known colloquially as a work house. After 1948 it was a NHS mental hospital - it says so in the National archives link - such a mental hospital is often referred to as an asylum even if documents refer to it as a mental hospital. From Dictionary.com Asylum = (especially formerly) an institution for the maintenance and care of the mentally ill, orphans, or other persons requiring specialized assistance. I think you are both correct in your interpretation of mental hospital viz asylum

No really it wasn’t an asylum. The word asylum was generally dropped from all of the County Asylums in the early 1900s - typically around 1910.

That doesn't mean the locals didn't refer to it as an asylum, even though I totally agree with your comment
