EMCO House – Leeds, October 2010.
Visited with KooK. One of Leeds' many semi-anonymous disused office spaces. Unsure of 100% accuracy on the history of this building as a whole, however, the company who previously owned it before folding were an Estates holding company with an integrated developer (under a different name). After going bust some time in 2007, the building was taken up as an asset by a bank and presumably the tenancies held by respective businesses within the offices were terminated as that is when the paper trail within goes dead...
The building adjoining EMCO house tells the story perfectly of the haste that this company was wrapped up. A grand vision of conversion housed within the beautiful grade II listed shell of former orthopaedics factory, Crispin house... not quite ever completed, with promises of boutique hotel poshness, it all looks a little sorry and neglected now...
Standing 7 stories tall overlooking the A64 York road, EMCO house doesn't really cut an assuming dash in today's high rise, semi glitzy, Leeds skyline. Internally it is a mixture of cellular and open plan offices in states of varying disrepair. Much paperwork and artifacts left by businesses remain as does power in some areas.
Some quite large business names once occupied space within this building, their ghostly remnants are evident only within outdated software, floppy discs and framed “motivational” posters...

First port of call was the roof, unfortunately the day started off terribly grey only revealing glorious autumnal sunshine once we'd exited the building!
